TSotC Favourites - Films, TV Shows and Books

October 11, 2019

The other day, as part of university lecture, we were asked to list the ways in which we discover new music. At the time I said via Spotify or by going to gigs and keeping my ears open for aurally appealing support acts- both of which I have done in the past and view as invaluable methods of finding new things to listen to.

However, since that lecture I have realised that over the last five or six years, the main way I've discovered much of the music I now listen to is through the soundtracks of various TV shows and films; in fact, I later found that (upon reading online reviews) that more than one of these are only considered worth watching by many because of the music they feature.

But what about movies and programmes that feature some fantastic music, and are more than just 'watchable' in themselves? As they spring to mind I shall note them down below- just in case anyone reading this is interested in seeing some half-decent music-related entertainment and indeed as something as a reference list for myself.

I have also included a list of books that maybe of interest- some fictitious, some not- partly because as a writer (admittedly an amateur one) I feel obliged to, but primarily because these texts also made up a great deal of my musical education as a child and have therefore also helped to keep me open-minded when it comes to listening to new (to me, anyway) artists and genres.
