SINGLE REVIEW: ‘Miracles’ by NoSecret

It’s safe to say we could all probably do with a bit more positivity in our lives at the moment, considering the trying times in which we are living.

Mancunian artist ‘NoSecret’ provides exactly that with his track ‘Miracles’, a melodically-inviting but frank declaration of the state the world is in, and more importantly, that there is something we can do to make it better.

According to the songwriter’s YouTube channel, the track was actually ‘inspired, conceived and written’ before the current Coronavirus pandemic, but its ‘call to action’-esque message conveys a feeling that is more than relevant to our current situation.

The song is primarily based around an acoustic guitar riff, with the artist’s warm, uncluttered vocal style lending itself well to the stripped back production. Nice touches of percussion give ‘Miracles’ a little bit of sparkle too, and though the song follows the typical verse-chorus structure, it doesn’t feel predictable (something which is more difficult to achieve than you might think).

The bridge section of ‘Miracles’ is particularly distinctive, with an ebb and flow of strings and bass guitar that, again, allow the lead vocal and lyrics to shine through before the rousing guitar solo towards the end of the track.

In terms of inspirations it would be interesting to know more about who NoSecret has been listening to recently; this particular track sounds reminiscent of later work by esteemed songwriters such as Steve Winwood, Roger Hodgson or Mike Rutherford, especially in the build up to the final chorus, where all the elements of the track come together to really bring home the idea that the ‘harmony’ between humans and nature that our planet so desperately needs is achievable.
